Yulemas and happiness

yule13

Today is Yule.
The year’s shortest day and longest night in the Northern Hemisphere (although it varies in date astronomically) and the Midwinter Solstice. In the Southern Hemisphere (a place I would like to visit some time) it is Midsummer Solstice.

These days it’s just one in a myriad of Midwinter Holidays that we Humans can celebrate. And as much as I love the celebrations of the rebirth of the Sun, I can’t help wishing that all the Religions could stop fighting over whose celebration is the “true and correct” one.

Actually, I wish all the fighting would stop.

There is too much hate in the air. Fundamentalists of all religions hate each other. They throw nasty words at each other and when these run out, they throw bullets, bombs, missiles, rocks, arrows… anything they can get into their hot, blood stained hands.

Happiness and Peace seem to be a long way away for our poor planet. Bombarded by explosives, creatures hunted for their fur and bones, children made homeless and pain ridden due to all the diseases of Homo Erectus – War, Fundamentalist Religion, Poverty, Starvation, Greed…

It’s a sad state of affairs and unless we all stop fighting and start agreeing to disagree, nothing will ever change.

Sadly I very much doubt it will ever happen.

This time of year is supposed to be about peace and happiness. About being with family and friends, enjoying each other’s company. Celebrating the passage of the earth around the sun and the positive things in life that Humans have achieved.

So today / tonight…

Pause for a moment in whatever you are doing and send out a positive, peace filled, love laden thought. It doesn’t have to be to anyone in particular. You don’t have to pray to a God of any sort for this. Send out a Midwinter / Midsummer wish to the world.

Maybe if everyone does this, the tide of Positivity will be so strong, it might just combat the Hate that is poisoning our atmosphere…
