Musings on The Doctor…

… and don’t tell me that you don’t know Who or what  I’m talking about – I mention that I’m a Whovian often enough…

Ahem..

Anyhoo, I actually managed to book a dr’s appt for tomorrow afternoon via the automated phone service (miracles will never cease) and because I was doing it on Speakerphone, my Fiance could hear it.
He started laughing because the automated voice says things like “You have an appointment with THE DOCTOR at…” and his imagination ran away with him, imagining me going to the surgery and fangirling over The Doctor who had just turned up in his TARDIS.

He started laughing, so when I got off the phone, I asked why and he explained. That started me off in a chain of thought (similar to the one that created “Night of The Nanobot) about future archaeologists thinking that Whovians were a religion…

…and you have to admit that some Whovians almost seem to take the show as seriously as a religion…

And that morphed into this:

Our Doctor, who art in T.A.R.D.I.S,
Hallowed be thy Sonic Screwdriver.
The crisis comes,
Thy Will be done,
On Earth as it is in Space.
Bring us this day our Fish Fingers and Custard,
And forgive us our Stupidity,
So that we might forgive the Stupid in Us.
Lead us running down the corridor,
And deliver us from Daleks,
For thine is the Memory,
The Genius and Admiration,
Until the End of the Universe,
“Thank You.”

Do you think I ought to carve it on a block of stone for those archaeologists to find?

The Doctor and The TARDIS

D’ya know that feeling when you have a loose tooth and you can’t help wiggling it?

I’ve had that feeling for a while now – every time I talk about Dr Who or watch the show, my mind drifts back to the story I wrote in 2008 and I wonder where on Gallifrey I have put the bedammed thing.

Anyway, I was talking to a friend and yet again he suggested that I write a Dr Who Book.

As much as I would love to do that, I’d get into a great deal of trouble if I tried to do it myself and as yet, I haven’t had an email from The Moffat to invite me aboard to write an episode (a girl can dream can’t she?) so the likelihood of being allowed to write a Dr Who book is one of those “when-I-win-the-lottery” type dreams…

Ahem.

The conversation started that tooth wiggle off in my mind and I decided to trawl through the files on my archive/flash drive.

I found it.

After several years of discussing it, I found it. And it’s not as bad as I thought it was… memory does strange things, you know.

So I’ve posted it under the Dr Who Fanfiction section of my “Free Stuff to Read” section. It’s called “The Doctor and The Tardis” and I wrote it in 2008, long before any discussion of Gallifrey or the chameleon circuit had come up in the modern TV series.

I left it on a cliffhanger, clearly intending to write another section, but now that I look at it, I don’t want to. I don’t want to mess with the relationship between the TARDIS and her Doctor. So it’s going to stay like that.

Sorry.

Despite that, I hope you like it… and I’ll try and get round to writing a new section to the current Dr Who story I have up…

Fan Fiction Fun… and some Good News!

You may have noticed that I’ve added a new section to the Free Stuff to Read called Morning Rituals.

I had a bit of a word drought recently. The ideas were there, but the words just wouldn’t do what I told them to do.  So as I normally do, I picked up my knitting needles and added a few rounds to the jumper I am knitting GIL.

My first thought was to  take one of the WIP’s I am working on and print them out, chapter by chapter, look carefully at them and then improve them. That idea got scuppered when I realised I only had enough ink in the printer for another 100 pages and the WIP was over three hundred!

So I printed out “Statues of Justice”.

It hasn’t been selling very well recently, so I’d taken it down with the idea of seeing what I could do to improve the story.

I started going through with a green pen, adding comments about changes and generally sorting out what was bad. By the time I got to the end of the first page, the printed word had been obscured by the pen.

Whoops.

So I scribbled rewrite on the top and started out on that.

Then this morning, unable to knit because my wrists were hurting and doubly unable to rewrite because I just couldn’t face the amount of work it was turning into, I jumped into the shower.

No, that’s not my shower, I wish it were, but I only have an ordinary one…

I did all the things I usually do in the shower and as I was watching my hair spider its way down to the plug hole, I had a brainwave.

TOH was playing Batman: Arkham Asylum downstairs and he was engaged in chasing Harley Quinn around the mansion. Harley has always been one of my favourite villainesses. I love her outfits – so casual, carefree, practical and fun – so much like her attitude to life. So I thought I’d do a piece about Harley.

As I was in the shower when I thought of it, I thought Harley’s morning routine would be an interesting angle to go for, so  I started writing.

As I was writing, I decided that I’d do the same to a few other characters I like. Not necessarily all Batman, just characters that I liked, from TV, Comics… anywhere really. I’ll be posting them under the same heading if you want to keep up with them!

Now for the News.

The Tower and The Eye Series has been picked up by Blue Hour Publishing.

This is why it is being taken off of sale, in preparation for an extensive editing and adjusting process (should my new editor feel they need them) before being re-released!

So watch out for more news on this process!
