A Rare Occurrence has happened & Other News…

… I’ve got a flash story published an an anthology!

It’s a rare occurrence because, while I cut my writing teeth  on short stories and anthologies, I have problems writing in forms any shorter than a thousand words now;  for this particular anthology the word limit was 250!

The process also created a short story that will be going into my next short story collection (which will be published when I feel I have enough words to justify a book) so it was rather useful in that respect… and it was a great deal of fun to write for – I had to really concentrate on my words and their meaning.

The links to the book the flash story is in are at the end of the post.

I’ve  just started a creative writing course. Now you might think that would be a waste of time for a writer, but there’s always value in going back to basics and working through them methodically; you learn more about yourself and improve your process… and writing that way. I’m not sure what I’ll do with anything I might write from the course, but it’s going to be an interesting journey, which is rather the whole point of it…

I shall of course, keep you posted on my progress.

I’m working on a new story for Camp NaNoWriMo in July.

It’s an off-shoot of “Teacups & Time Travel”, set in the world that Lady Elizabeth ran off to… and is already doing rather well on the page. If I think you may enjoy it, I shall post excerpts on here…

Here’s a few words from it…

Hi, I’m Alice. No, not THAT Alice; she was a figment of Lewis Carroll’s hallucinations. I’m a real Alice.

Wonderland? Real? Yes, but not the way he saw it. Or the way that the Cartoons and movies have imagined it or even the way that you might see it when you’re reading the books.

I know the Real Wonderland and… honestly… it’s a lot more scary, a lot less friendly and even more fun than you might think. I don’t call it Wonderland though, I call it the Curious World; to me it’s my escape place – my freedom and my relaxation.

Do you want to come with me to visit it?

There’s no following a White Rabbit or falling down a hole in the ground. My route is much, much simpler and a lot harder; you have to have the ability to step through your reality and into mine.

Do you still want to come with me?

What do you think? It feels like it has legs for me and I’m going to run with it…

And Finally:

Here’s those book links I was talking about!

April is on it’s way…

…And that only means one thing in my world!

Writing, and lots of it.

Yup,  I’m doing Camp NaNoWriMo again.

(I am somewhat of a glutton for punishment methinks)

This year I am revisiting a project that I started in November 2015 during NaNoWriMo.

Teacups & Time Travel – Take One…

The word count on that one went fairly well – I managed 26,633 words – until I hit my usual nemesis… the middle of the book!

So I put it aside until the following April and my 4th Camp NaNoWriMo. This time I decided to come at the same story from a different angle…

Teacups & Time Travel – Take 2…

This time I managed just 21,259 words – my muse departed for a holiday and left me high and dry!

I’ve added a few thousand words to it since – the word count currently stands at 37,867 and I’d really like to get:

a) the story finished.
b) the word count up to a min of 70,000.

That’s assuming that life doesn’t distract me too much and that I can get my current WIP finished.

Talking of which, I’ve got to 66, 907 words and killed off a few characters along the way. I’ve also managed to set the scene for the next book in that world. I also changed the title from “Chamberlain’s Curse” to “The Curse of The Jade Cat”. So I’m pretty happy with it; I just want to get it finished so that it can move onto the next stage!

The first book in that world is “Heir of The Dragon” and I’m in the process of giving it the once over, seeing if I can improve it. It’s been given a sparkly new cover – which I will do a big reveal of once I get closer to the time when I can say that the new book will be published… because that also has a wonderful cover by the same Cover Artist and deserves a big build up!

So now you’re all caught up with the World of the Teigr Princess,  I’m signing off until the end of April. Social Media is a huge procrastination station for me, so I need to unplug completely to get things done.

Hopefully when I post next, I’ll have two new books to tell you about!

Post NaNo Slump…

I have no idea if everyone who does NaNoWriMo experiences this, but every time I do NaNo properly (as in writing every day and trying to concentrate on that one story) I find that in December I can’t focus on anything much…

I can write the odd word on my WIP,  work on a children’s book or do a crafting project, but it’s like I’ve lost any chance of actually concentrating for a decent length of time on one project. I jump from one thing to another and every time I spend too long on something, I get really really tired.

It happens every year without fail; but I’m not sure if it’s to do with my ASD; the SAD that rears it’s head at this time of year or just being plain tired.

It’s been hard for me to focus on writing this post… I feel like I’m falling asleep over the keyboard!
